Lisa Poskanzer is a teacher at North Grade Elementary School in Lake Worth, Florida. Teaching babies to read is her passion. Lisa developed Improv to Improve in her classroom as a way to reduce the anxiety she and her students felt in the world of bell to bell instruction and data mining and teaching to the highest rigor of the standards.
A few years ago, to relieve the tension in the school climate, Lisa went back to her roots and signed up for an improvisation class. Almost immediately, Lisa began to feel the tension melt away. Not permanently, of course, but for the time she was in improv, the world was beautiful and peaceful and joyful. A few weeks into class, Lisa decided to play the same theater games from improv class with her students. The effect was instantaneous. The kids laughed and released the stress that a 90- minute literacy block has on a five-year old. After five years of playing with her students, Lisa has chosen to share the gift of play with other teachers so they can gift their students with joy.
Lisa is the ridiculously proud mother of Emma and Graham. The greatest joy has been the journey being their mother and watching them become amazing adults.
